Overview
A repeater station is a relay device that sits between the base station (BS) and the mobile station (MS), functioning as a same-frequency amplifier. It serves as a radio transmission and forwarding tool, enhancing signals during wireless communication. At its core, a repeater station essentially acts as an RF signal power booster. Using repeater stations is considered a crucial approach to achieving the dual goals of "small capacity with wide coverage." This is primarily because repeaters allow operators to maintain network coverage without increasing the number of base stations—while also offering a significantly lower cost compared to microcell systems that deliver similar performance enhancements.
